Cards are a great way to let someone know you are thinking about them, but even better is giving a card where environmental impact has been considered, and elements of that card will actually give back to the environment.

In a world where paper usage is a real concern, finding tree free sustainable alternatives is vital. Even better is solution that actually gives back to the environment and supports communities, providing work with fair pay, good working conditions and ethical treatment.
Could Lokta tree free cards with seeds to plant inside, be the answer?
Lokta bark is harvested in the Himalayas from the inner bark of the daphne bholua shrub. Lokta bark is a renewable resource and is completely sustainable. Plants are cropped above ground level and they re-grow from the radial root. They can then be re-harvested after 3 to 4 years.
So, the outer elements of the card are lokta based, but what about the interior? What about the adhesive used? What about the ink? The interior of the lokta card is to give it additional support when standing. It is hand made using 100% Pre-Consumer Recycled Cotton, this card is eco friendly and biodegradable, and it is plantable - it contains 4 kinds of bee friendly flower seeds!
Adhesives and inks have long been associated with containing plastics, toxic dyes and ingredients, and unfortunately many do. The adhesive and ink I use is all environmentally friendly. The glue I use to attach the card interior is made from potato starch and almond aroma, it is 100% safe for composting and is biodegradable, as well as being non toxic and solvent free. The eco friendly water based ink I use is 100% solvent free and non toxic.
Design ranges
Greetings cards are a relatively new element to my ethical gifting business, so I would love to hear your thoughts - like suggestions of imagery you would like to see or celebration themes. The cards I make are mostly to order, to fit with my ethos of not adopting a practice of mass production, hence saving energy and materials for when they are needed, resulting in the vast reduction of waste and emissions. In the pipeline I am working on a 'birthday' theme, a 'Good Luck' theme and a 'best wishes' theme, but I would love to hear what sort of card you are looking for! I can even do digital cards if requested, costing a £1 each, sent in PDF format to your chosen email, date and time.
